A NEW APPROACH IN AN AGE OLD BUSINESS+44 (0) 1926 691 141
My early working years were spent in the licensed trade, running country pubs and inns, where face to face customer contact is one of the biggest factors in building a business, an approach that worked equally well during the following years in the motor trade. At 31, I changed direction and embarked on a career within retail car sales, working for main dealer groups including CD Bramall, Pendragon, Bristol Street Motors, and Lookers, progressing from a sales executive through various management roles until eventually becoming a Dealer Principal.
Classic and competition cars played a large part in my family life and I was lucky enough to enjoy some modest success in the British Hillclimb Championship over a few seasons in my Pilbeam MP58. It was this interest in Motor Sport that prompted me to accept a directorship at GDS Engineering, a company that supplied equipment to the Motorsport industry from grassroots to F1 and MotoGP.
However, I have always been fascinated by the auction business, and when offered a senior position by Nick Whale at his rapidly expanding Silverstone Auctions, it seemed a marvellous opportunity. I joined Nick in September 2013 and am now a director of both Silverstone Auctions and our sister company Classic Car Auctions. Both companies have expanded exponentially over the last five years and my main function now is looking after the many aspects of running a dynamic auction house whilst pointing our team of 12 brilliant young consignors in the right direction and ensuring that they remember that a face to face, straightforward approach to our customers will achieve the best results for both vendor and buyer alike.
